County Commissioner Setting the Record Straight regarding Mesa County Clerk Office Closures

Sometimes you just have to set the record straight.  After a long time of silence on this issue that has misled citizens in Mesa County I'm grateful that Rose Pugliese has stepped up to correct the "record" .
County employees and citizens alike have been told that the reason 2 county offices were closed were due to budget restraints and the fault of the Commissioners. Enough is enough, please fact check for yourself. All the County Commissioners proceedings are recorded.

Here is what the local newspaper was told and below is the truth. You decide...

"It is always so  easy to blame the Commissioners. Let's set the record straight. The Clerk and Recorder did not take an additional 5% budget cut. As I recall, she had excess unanticipated revenue come in from the State. I do know no additional cuts were made. The Clerk volunteered to close the two satellite offices [Clifton and Fruita] and assured me there would be no impact to the public in this consolidation. While we appreciate the Clerk for temporarily giving money to public safety, her office was immediately repaid after the public safety tax was passed. When I came in to office, no Electeds' office was cut but departments did take numerous cuts. The Clerk has given raises in the past 5 years. This does not mean we do not need to discuss county employee compensation. But it is inaccurate to say no raises have been given. I still do not understand why the Clerk needs three deputies for approximately 20 employees while the County Administrator oversees matters affecting approximately 1,100 employees without a deputy. None of what I laid out here should be a surprise. There is a Board of Commissioners hearing where I raised these issues.
You can and should fact check me.
Candidates can disagree about approaches. This is healthy discourse. I applaud any candidate, or constituent for that matter, who looks at new ways and brings fresh perspectives and solutions to issues affecting Mesa County. #mesacounty"

As Tina Peters candidate for Mesa County Clerk and Recorder, I will work to cost effectively open the offices that were closed to improve and make customer service my top priority.
Bobbie Gross as the motor vehicle manager could have focused more on how she was going to help the citizens of Mesa County and less on her "experience" ...just say'n...
